Sci­ence and in­ven­tion ben­e­fited most of all from the print­ing press, and the in­ter­ac­tion of all these cul­tural and in­ven­tive ac­tiv­i­ties has enor­mously ac­cel­er­ated the rate of cul­tural ad­vance­ment.

81:5.5So­ci­ety thus be­comes a co-op­er­a­tive scheme for se­cur­ing civil free­dom through in­sti­tu­tions, eco­nomic free­dom through cap­i­tal and in­ven­tion, so­cial lib­erty through cul­ture, and free­dom from vi­o­lence through po­lice reg­u­la­tion.

81:2.14The sav­age is a slave to na­ture, but sci­en­tific civ­i­liza­tion is slowly con­fer­ring in­creas­ing lib­erty on man­kind. Through an­i­mals, fire, wind, wa­ter, elec­tric­ity, and other undis­cov­ered sources of en­ergy, man has lib­er­ated, and will con­tinue to lib­er­ate, him­self from the ne­ces­sity for un­remit­ting toil. Re­gard­less of the tran­sient trou­ble pro­duced by the pro­lific in­ven­tion of ma­chin­ery, the ul­ti­mate ben­e­fits to be de­rived from such me­chan­i­cal in­ven­tions are in­es­timable. Civ­i­liza­tion can never flour­ish, much less be es­tab­lished, un­til man has leisure to think, to plan, to imag­ine new and bet­ter ways of do­ing things.

52:3.6The re­sult of the gift of the Adamic life plasm to the mor­tal races is an im­me­di­ate up­step­ping of in­tel­lec­tual ca­pac­ity and an ac­cel­er­a­tion of spir­i­tual prog­ress. There is usu­ally some phys­i­cal im­prove­ment also. On an av­er­age world the post-Adamic dis­pen­sa­tion is an age of great in­ven­tion, en­ergy con­trol, and me­chan­i­cal de­vel­op­ment. This is the era of the ap­pear­ance of mul­ti­form man­u­fac­ture and the con­trol of nat­u­ral forces; it is the golden age of ex­plo­ration and the fi­nal sub­du­ing of the planet. Much of the ma­te­rial prog­ress of a world oc­curs dur­ing this time of the in­au­gu­ra­tion of the de­vel­op­ment of the phys­i­cal sci­ences, just such an epoch as Uran­tia is now ex­pe­ri­enc­ing.
